LaChauncey Staton is a Retired Detective Sergeant with the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office’s
Domestic Violence Unit. He has been employed with the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office since 1997
and has held various positions throughout his career. LaChauncey specializes in investigating
crimes related to domestic violence, child abuse, and sexual assault. He served as the Team
Leader of the Crisis Negotiator Team and the Honor Guard Unit. Before joining the Pitt County
Sheriff’s Office, LaChauncey worked as a patrol officer, shift supervisor, and member of the
Special Response Team for the Williamston Police Department starting in 1993. His career has
provided him with opportunities to engage with citizens, schools, churches, and civic groups on
various critical issues, including crime prevention, domestic violence awareness, law
enforcement practices, and community relations.
LaChauncey graduated from North Pitt High School and completed his Basic Law Enforcement
Training at Pitt Community College. He has earned numerous certifications, including Advanced
Law Enforcement Certification, Advanced Crisis Negotiation Certification, Crisis Intervention
Certification, Police Law Institute Certificate, Field Training Officer Certificate, and First-line
Supervisor Certification. He also trains officers in the Lethality Assessment Program and
instructs on Fair and Impartial Policing. Additionally, LaChauncey served as a board member of
the Center for Family Violence and is currently a committee member of the Pitt County Human
Relations Committee. He holds the position of Vice President on the board of the Greenville
Police Department’s Police Athletic League (PAL).
Born in Newark, New Jersey, and raised in Pitt County, LaChauncey currently resides in
Greenville, North Carolina. He is married to Mrs. Twanda Staton. LaChauncey is dedicated to
serving and protecting his community. He is passionate about raising awareness of community
issues, believing that collective effort can resolve these challenges and improve the community
for everyone. LaChauncey has continuously strived to serve the community, not only as a law
enforcement officer but also by educating and informing the citizens of Pitt County on pressing
concerns. He applied to the Board and Commission Fellowship Program to enhance his service
on the boards and commissions he is currently appointed to and to prepare for future roles.
LaChauncey seeks a deeper understanding of government procedures and practices that will aid
him in his responsibilities. He has always been an advocate for those who cannot advocate for
themselves, believing that the government should serve the people and facilitate opportunities for
individuals to enhance their lives.
In his leisure time, LaChauncey enjoys spending time with family, watching movies, cooking,
playing video games, practicing with firearms, and working out whenever possible. He looks
forward to participating in the Board and Commission Fellowship Program, viewing it as a
valuable opportunity to learn, collaborate with others, and contribute to making the community,
state, and nation a better place.
