Michelle (Meech) Carter is the Clean Energy Campaigns Director at the North Carolina League of Conservation Voters Foundation. Originally from a rural town in San Diego, California, Meech moved to Durham, NC in 2021. Before graduating from Duke with her Master in Environmental Management, Meech received her Master of Science in Law from Northwestern and her Bachelor’s in biology and geology from UCLA. Meech also serves on the Youth Leadership Council for the National Parks Conservation Association and the NC Climate Week Advisory Committee. She applied for the program to effectively advocate for tangible changes to intersectional issues in her community, like mental health and LGBTQ+ rights. Meech wants to learn more about the budgeting process for local governments and how taxes are converted into community programs and priorities. Outside of her advocacy work, Meech loves running Dungeons and Dragons campaigns, throwing axes, making pottery, and reading any book she can find.
