Meech Carter (2025 Fellow)

Recently appointed to the Durham Environmental Affairs Board (EAB). She shares this: “I attended my first Durham EAB meeting this week! I was super nervous since it was in person, very formal and intimidating. I am truly SO grateful for the Boards and Commissions program, because once we got into the meeting it felt almost exactly like one of our classes.”

Luther Hemby (2025 Fellow)

Recently appointed to the newly formed Vision Zero Task Force for Winterville, NC. This committee’s mission is to work toward ending serious injuries and fatalities on roads, particularly here in the Winterville area. He shares: “I am honored to accept this appointment and look forward to contributing to projects that prioritize community safety — especially for our youth traveling to and from school, and for residents as they walk, bike, and move through our neighborhoods. I’m grateful for the opportunity to represent our environmental organization on this task force and eager to collaborate with others who share the vision of a safer, healthier, and more sustainable Winterville.”
