We Know the Cost of Environmental Impacts; Use Your Voice to Make a Difference
Many of us know firsthand how the environment impacts our lives and our families. In just the past few years, we’ve faced devastating floods, hurricanes, and wildfires that have destroyed homes, livelihoods, and tragically, even lives.
On top of that, wealthy companies in NC have polluted our air and water for decades, and the impacts of this pollution mostly hurt communities with less wealth, rural communities, and/or communities of color.
The science is clear: climate disasters in NC will only become more frequent and intense. But instead of protecting us, the Trump administration – and certain NC lawmakers – are working to dismantle the very protections we rely on to confront environmental crises.
Rolling Back Environmental Protections
Under Trump’s direction, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) – the agency charged with safeguarding our health and environment – wants to repeal a critical finding that recognizes climate change as a threat to human health. This finding is the backbone of many climate protections we currently have in place. Without it, decades of progress could be undone.
Why Would the EPA Do This?
It’s simple: Trump and Lee Zeldin, his hand-picked EPA Administrator, are putting greedy corporations over hard-working people. They don’t care if our families breathe clean air or drink safe water. Their priority is helping their wealthy friends and big polluters get richer – even if it means risking our health and safety.
Time and again, our leaders have given tax breaks to billionaires while raising costs for working families and stripping away protections for our communities. Enough is enough.
We Are Not Powerless
The good news: our state is moving in the right direction thanks to environmental champions like Gov. Josh Stein and his administration. We’ve seen meaningful rebuilding of communities. We’ve helped hold polluters accountable. Together, we’re changing people’s lives for the better, and we can’t stop now.
While we see the federal government rolling back protection, we can push our state forward. We’ve already made progress in NC, but we want every community to have clean air, water, and energy.
