PowerUp NC Fayetteville

Fayetteville

Our Fayetteville PowerUp NC team is leading the call for more equitable and sustainable development in neighborhoods and communities across the Sandhills region of our state. Alongside partners like Sustainable Sandhill’s and the A. Philip Randolph Institute, we are lifting our voices to demand environmental justice.

Environmental justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people, regardless of race, color, national origin, or income, with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies.

FPUNC is working with frontline communities on issues that are directly impacting their daily lives such as infrastructure damage to their homes due to sewer and water problems that the city is responsible for. Air and water pollution that is impacting the health and safety of numerous communities due to harmful chemicals, gases, and dust form businesses moving into their neighborhoods and trying to push out the residents.

Our team works to build a strong sustainable future with residents through our community garden project located at the Fayetteville Community Garden where we occupy 4 garden plots that are maintained and utilized by the community members.

Every summer we hold our Environmental Mondays (E-Mondays) for the youth, with a range of students from ages 6-13 years. Our E-Mondays program focuses on info gathering, interactive learning and volunteering for the young leaders in our community intended to foster young people’s personal growth.  The program teaches the importance of Earth health and a just transition towards a healthy climate change.  The youth help guide the program through their interactions during listening and information gathering sessions.

Our program trains the youth to become environmental stewards, and environmentally conscious leaders who promote environmental sustainability in others. The program is free for all participants and is for 6 weeks.

Get involved with PowerUp NC and join us as we stand up for environmental justice.
