Who We Are

The North Carolina League of Conservation Voters Foundation (NCLCVF) has worked for nearly 50 years to turn your environmental values into North Carolina priorities. North Carolinians know how important our natural landscapes (such as our beaches, mountains, and forests) are to our families, communities, and economy.

Our mission: NCLCVF connects and engages people to protect our natural environment and promote the well-being of our communities. We work to turn environmental values into NC priorities by engaging people in the democratic process, organizing in communities to connect environmental policies to people’s daily lives, cultivating environmental leaders, and advocating for policies at the state and local level that protect the health and quality of life for all North Carolinians.

We fulfill our mission by:

  • Mobilizing and Engaging People in Democracy: Every North Carolinian deserves a voice in our elections and equal access to the democratic process. We implement strategic nonpartisan voter engagement programs in election years. And, we engage people in the civic process year-round, focusing on underrepresented communities who are often on the frontlines of environmental degradation. Our vision is to see a robust, informed democracy where elected officials’ actions reflect citizens’ interests and priorities.
  • Connecting to People’s Daily Lives: We partner with diverse communities, leaders, and allies at the intersection of environment, the economy, and health to build a broad base of North Carolinians engaging, acting, and voting on the environment at all levels of government. We organize at the local level so citizens can shape the decisions that impact their families and communities.
  • Advocating for Sound Environmental Protections: In order to protect the environment and the health of our communities and economy, we need the right laws in place and enforced. We advance policies that protect our health and quality of life, work to enforce those laws effectively, and educate the public and elected officials about critical environmental issues.

NCLCVF (previously Conservation Council of NC Foundation) is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code. Started in 1971, the organization is governed by its own board of directors, and the work is carried out by staff shared with our sister organization, the NC League of Conservation Voters (NCLCV).

Elected officials make many decisions that impact our air, water, land, and health. Therefore, one of the most important actions you can take to protect our quality of life is to affect the outcome of those decisions. NCLCVF does this through working in coalition with other nonprofit organizations and community leaders to provide education and resources on how to be a citizen advocate.

Additionally, our sister organization (NCLCV) works with state leaders and agencies to ensure pro-environmental policies are not only passed but enforced to protect our state.

Voting is another critical action for citizens to take to make their values known. Our vision is to see a robust, informed democracy where elected officials reflect constitutent interests and priorities. In order to turn this vision into our reality, we work to mobilize citizens to participate in the democratic process through nonpartisan voter registration and “Get Out The Vote” (GOTV) campaigns.

In order to address the multiple challenges facing our state, we need active and responsible citizens. We know that protecting North Carolina’s environment starts with North Carolinians. With your help, we can turn our environmental values into North Carolina priorities.
